STAND AND BE COUNTED
The Bush Theatre, nabokov and Drywrite present First Time Voters, a project inspired by the young people for whom 6 May 2010 is the first chance to have their say in how the country is run.
Developed through workshop sessions with young people from Hammersmith and Fulham, First Time Voters will be performed at the Bush on the day before the polls open, Wednesday 5th May. As the country prepares to head to the polling stations, we'll be giving young voters a voice, from the engaged to the apathetic, the sceptical to the passionate, the confused to the informed.
Join us for a fascinating evening of stimulating new writing, exploring what it means to be a first time voter in 2010.
The Bush is a writers’ theatre. We commission, develop and produce exclusively new plays, reading and responding to every script sent in and presenting eight new plays a year. Everything that we do to develop playwrights focuses them towards a production on our stage or beyond.
Since its opening in April 1972, the Bush Theatre has grown to become a leading new writing venue, premiering the finest new writing talent and receiving over 100 awards. Bush plays have transferred to The West End and Broadway, toured throughout Britain, Europe, North America and Asia, and have been successfully adapted for film and television.
DryWrite is a new writing theatre company inspired by the power of anonymity. We support writers to step out of their comfort zones: to experiment, to innovate and to play with subject, form and space.
All our writers present their work anonymously – you’ll know who has written for each event, but not which piece they have written. You’ll see the work of established writers played out along side that of a first-timer and everything in between.
nabokov is a new writing theatre company dedicated to commissioning, developing and producing backlash theatre - new work that offers an antagonistic response to contemporary agendas, trends and events.
Since 2001, we have produced critically acclaimed productions in London, Edinburgh and on tour. We aim to develop new work through events, workshops, readings and literary programmes including PRESENT : TENSE, where we challenge playwrights to write plays in response to the most important story on the news agenda in just one week.
