8th March 2011

Box of Tricks Theatre's production of Word:Play 4 at the new Arcola Theatre recently enjoyed a sell-out run, receiving positive responses from those in attendance.

After attending, What's On Stage's Jo Caird posted a blog praising the production and the Word:Play model of performance:

With Word:Play, Box of Tricks is giving six playwrights the chance to experiment with new work in a safe space, but the benefits of this type of bite-sized theatre extend to the audience too, and not just because several of the plays were entertaining in themselves. What we get with such an evening of work is a reminder that great plays don’t just emerge fully formed on the stage at the National Theatre or the Royal Court, but are almost always the result of years of slog as writers learn their craft.

6th February 2011

Box of Tricks Theatre will be presenting Word:Play 4 at the new Arcola Theatre from Tue 1st - Sat 5th March 2011.

Writers for this incarnation are Daniel Kanaber, Jaki McCarrick, Katie McCullough, Siân Owen, Becky Prestwich and Daniel Smith. Tickets can be booked online, or by calling 020 7503 1646.

Box of Tricks Theatre's Word:Play 3 recently enjoyed a sell-out run at Theatre503, and received a great response from audiences. Remote Goat had this to say about the production:

"We kick (or rather, push) off with Kenneth Emson's 'Shove'… A promisingly intriguing start and an engaging performance by Simon Darwen… Hannah Nicklin's 'Awake'… neatly engages in a poignant argument... aided by a terrific performance from Gunnarsson, evoking the spirit of a Jean-Pierre Jeunet hero. [In 'Struck by Love/Train', Natasha] James has great fun with Evan Placey's witty and poetic script…We end with Marcelo Dos Santos' 'Safety'… Dos Santos marries Pinter with Philip Ridley in a uniquely beguiling manner and the cast are excellent… Box of Tricks' evening is certainly interesting, even fascinating at times."
